It finally occurred to me what Dr. Os’ administration is missing, a new cabinet position; The Department of

Washington DC
Common Sense. No administration has ever had one and they have all needed one. I really thought this was how he was going to change Washington.
This is as idea that harkins back to my teenage years, my dad used to say that they needed a Department of Common Sense, because none of them have any common sense. Of course he also said that he would have to run the Department of Common Sense because he was the only one who had any(the latter half of that statement was made when my mother was not around of course).
So what was dear ole’ dad driving at? Quite simple really; exactly what he said. Politicians often speak and act with out first using common sense.
Some issues to support this allegation are as follows:
- Gun Control
- Immigration
- Energy
Lets look at Gun Control while one side of the fence says we need to take away the guns those on the other side of the fence say no we need to have guns. Both sides of the fence yell at the middle ground to get off the fence and the only ones who have it right are the ones on the fence. That being said, the common sense approach would reveal that neither side is totally correct, Yes we need gun control but that shouldn’t mean take away all fire arms from everyone; it also shouldn’t give you the right to own a bazooka and an M-16. These two sides are the infrared and the ultraviolet; invisible to common sense physics.
Common sense should dictate that the second amendments right to bare arms, refers to Hunting rifles, and shotguns for hunting and recreation, and hand guns for self protection (the waiting period being the only bit of common sense here). Any one with common sense wouldn’t think for a moment that the founding fathers had sub-machine guns in mind when they penned that one. They couldn’t predict the future no, but I think the law wasn’t intended to be abused with such broad definition of “fire arms.”
Immigration, no common sense here. These people have been sneaking in to our country illegally, so since the first thing they did upon entering our country illegally(this is a felony) was to break our laws. We feel the need to give them free health care at the expense of the rest of us, and press 1 for E and 2 for Spanish. We also decided it wasn’t worth sending them back where they came from even though they are felons we will let them run free in our country to commit more crimes. Then they can sue us when we defend our property and our country against them. Read here for more details on that, Immigration.
Here’s the common sense approach, give them no good reason to come to our country illegally, give them no rights, no free food, and no free health care. Round them up and deport them, let the INS do the job they are paid to do. Build that fence, it may discourage them when they go through so much to get in only to be thrown back out.
For energy, we need to drill our own oil, too many people drag their feet on this. Jabbering away about renewable fuels, hey great I’m all for that; but until that becomes a reality we need to drill our own oil instead of paying a fortune for every one elses’ oil. Secondly the best alternative we have to oil right now is Nuclear Power, and now they don’t want to do that either. Obama said he was for it in his campaign but it is non existent in any of his energy efforts.
Unfortunately we continue to pay too much for foreign oil, giving money to people who hate us (Muslims, Venezuela), so they can use our own money to finance bombings.
Now that we see the lack of common sense in Washington we can see why it’s a Cracked World!

Wow dude that is funny. But one needs to remember that all this stuff is gonna take time to improvise. All we read about in the news is the stimulus package, and right now that is congresses main focus. Ben Bernanke even said that we need to stabalize the banking industry before our country can even begin to see a turn around.
A number of Michigan cities are counting on this stimulus package to upgrade their infrastructure. What about individual stimulus checks we should be getting, are you going to refuse yours?
Our country is seriously hurting right now. This may not be the answer,(huge gov’t spending), and as I have said before, we need to see how all this is going to play out. Remember, one step at a time.
As for your investment ideas, they are spot on. If one can afford to invest right now DO IT. Prices are low, and eventually the economy will turn around. My advice, invest if you can.
Pork spending in the stimulus package according to the Taxpayers for Common Sense is over 7 billion dollars. Sen. Mc Cain and Coburn are trying to get it reduced or eliminated. Good Luck you guys. Wouldn’t it be great if the President had complete line item veto, and get rid of this useless spending with one stroke of his pen. Obama and McCain, in their campaigns stated they were going to change the way government does things. Let’s hope our president sticks to his guns and follows through with what he said. Sounds like McCain is.
I know nothing of a stimulus check that any one will receive from this spending plan only a tax cut that will amount about $13 a week according to news reports I have seen. Even that money is placed in our wallets only to be taken back later when the time comes to pay for all of this.
As far Investing now is concerned, ABSOLUTELY! If you can afford it. Not only does the economy and market in general need it but shares of stock are essentially on Blue Light Special. The prices are so low that buying now and riding out the recession is a very smart move, (when the price does go back up, and it will because it always does, you will have that much more of it, that’s a good thing).
Will Obama stick to his guns? If your referring to the fiscal responsibility he was campaigning on Common Sense would say his $3.6 trillion budget for 2010 would say he’s abandoned that Idea all together in favor of furthering the liberal agenda. Check out my article on Fiscal irresponsibility for more information on that.
Thanks for your input Tom, it is appreciated and always a pleasure.
Very well written blog.
I am impressed with your site and look forward to discussions.
I particularly read with interest the immigration section. This is one thing that absolutely sends me into orbit. We can’t take care of our own citizens in some instances but yet illegal immigrants, for the most part, are getting a free ride. This is the USA. We speak English here. If you want to stay, LEARN it. If not, go HOME.
I particularly have no problem with immigration, but the other part of the deal is assimilation. They seem to refuse to do that part of it. Become a citizen legally or not at all. As you said Learn the language, to that I would add PAY TAXES! I keep hearing that they do the jobs Americans won’t do and they collect our produce for less than any one else and farmers like that. Here’s my plan: Chain Gangs! Let prison inmates pick the fruit for free that’s cheaper than illegals picking, and they would be paying for their stay. I see no downside to this what so ever.
I am looking forward to hearing from you again Melissa so don’t be a stranger to Cracked World!
