The fact that California is about $45 billion over budget, and is now relying on the Federal government to bail them out is laughable. Beg for money from the rest of the country during one of the greatest economic crises the country has seen in decades when they are sitting on a gold mine. A black-gold mine to be specific.
Off the shores of California are at least 18 billion barrels of oil and untold fortunes in natural gas. None of this will ever be tapped as long as tree hugging liberals are in control of the state. So while Californians are facing an increase of $10,000 in annual taxes to cover the budgetary needs of the state, there is a trillion dollars worth of oil revenues and royalties under the sea floor just a few miles off their coast.
Now just for a moment consider the number of jobs, high paying jobs at that, that these enviro-geeks are standing in the way of. With a clean drilling record of over 99% in the Gulf of Mexico since the 1970’s its pretty hard to see a reason not to drill for oil but out in the land of fruits and nuts anything is possible, (accept for a balanced budget).
Think of the oil resources that the entire country would benefit from. Oh but wait, we don’t need to drill our own oil, all we have to do is properly inflate our tires on our cars. California’s Bureau of Automotive Repair has been spending millions on a public education campaign called Drive Healthy: Along with The President they have been telling Californians (and the rest of us) that drilling our own oil is unnecessary because we can save as much oil as we could drill by inflating our tires.
They also say it would take ten years to start drilling. For one thing if we started ten years ago when President Clinton said this we wouldn’t be saying it today. For another thing thats an old ploy that won’t wash here because that estimate referrs to building and placing Oil Rigs and all the set up time. California has a number of oil rigs ready and waiting. Their ten years would be more like six months.
In the meantime we’ll just keep buying oil from foreigners with ridiculous currency exchange rates and send all of our revenues overseas to people who will in turn give that money to people who want to kill us.
So when Californians start to complain about all the extra $10,000 in taxes they have to pay, know this; its no ones fault but their own. They continue to elect and re-elect these tree hugging morons into office.
If there are any better ideas than drilling their own oil to pay for their budget I’d like to hear it.
Its a Cracked World!

I think that if the US get’s cracking on alternative energy, then we can hold on with buying foreign oil. There are still numerous oil reserves out there, Venezuela, Caspian Sea, Russia, Middle East, clusters of islands in the Pacific, etc. I’m not a ‘tree hugger’ but I think we can hold off with drilling oil reserves off our coasts.
Good article though,

Well Bret, yes we probably could hold on with buying foreign oil for a while longer, but why? Every barrel we buy from another country sends American dollars to “another country”. The currency exchange rate for the American dollar really SUCKS right now (I believe the last figure I heard was 33 cents on the dollar, some one may be able to correct me on that). The way I see it is buying American oil makes our money go further than it would buying foreign oil, this frees up more money to invest in alternative energy sources. Don’t forget these foreign countries with oil like to abuse the power it gives them. Russia, Venezuela, and obviously the Middle Eastern nations are currently engaged in some rather unsavory agendas these days.
Your a smart guy Bret I hope to hear from you more in the future.
‘Admin’ (sorry I don’t know a username to refer to you by), you do make some good points. Yes the American dollar is in a nasty position. Yes if we buy American oil, it will free up money to invest in smart places. However, I believe that it isn’t worth for the US to begin offshore drilling. I kind of look at it as a last resort, and in my opinion, I think we aren’t in that much trouble…at least not yet.
My solution, yes there are countries that abuse their resources, but if the US provides some simple aid funds and even a little bit of ‘military consulting’ then they’ll let us take their resources.
Also one could point out that the countries that were ‘mean’ to the US with their oil, have recently been taking economic hits because oil prices fell from their summer high. Simply, I don’t think they’ll get away.
It’s a very debatable issue. Both sides have valid, important points. I just don’t like the feeling of having oil drills off our coasts. It would be a nightmare to have an oil spill off the coast of California or something.
I like your blog alot and look forward to continue to visit it. If you ever want to check out another political, global security blog, then visit mine at http://www.student-view-world.blogspot.com/.

As far as some simple aid funds as you put it goes, we have enough budgetary problems inside our own country to be giving more money away to other countries. “They’ll let us take their resources”? If we produced our own we wouldn’t need theirs.
You also have to understand that that would create a lot of high paying jobs.
You also said you don’t think we’re in that much trouble…at least not yet. Why would we want to wait for that much trouble to happen? As I stated before if we started drilling ten years ago we would be in any trouble at all. And keep in mind that the Chinese and the Cubans are already drilling off the coast of Florida and they won’t care if some oil spills onto our shores. Either we can drill it or they will.
It is absolutely ridiculous that we have all this freakin oil, natural gas, and coal within our own boundaries and lefty idiots like these people continue to cry about not being energy independent demanding we go green. Makes my head want to explode.
Just wanted to drop by and let you know that I got around to it and have now added you to my blogroll. Keep up the great work over here.
Well well I am not alone.
And by lefty idiots I assume you are talking about the granola bars running the state of California. Nancy Pelosi a and Arnold Sausagemaker?
