Stimulus Passes House - Pays for Pork

On Wednesday the House of Representatives passes an Economic Stimulus package. All 177 Republicans voted against this bill along with 11 Democrats. So much for bipartisan support, sorry Mr. President but reaching across party lines and bipartisanship requires more than just presenting a bill and telling the opposition to bite down hard and vote for it. There was no compromise in this bill what so ever. Other than the removal of some rather controversial pork involving the funding of contraception, there was no partnership between the two parties.

Here is an idea, why don’t they try integrating some aspects from both parties in this bill? What happened to Changing Washington?

So what do the Republicans want? Tax cuts. I would guess tax cuts for businesses and corportations. This makes sense to me. Lets give a tax break to those who employ the rest of us. Letting corporate America keep more of there money empowers them to do what they do, make money. There should be no need to resort to socialistic measures of multi-billion dollar bailouts if they are allowed to keep what they earn. They would be able to invest in prosperity. Buy new equipment, hire more workers, and earn more profits.

EARN MORE PROFITS!!

From there they pay taxes on more profits, they pay sales tax on equipment they buy, there employees pay income taxes and more sales taxes simply because they HAVE more money to spend! That’s how Capitalism works!

The truth of the matter is that some of President Obamas’ ideas are good ones. Spending money on rebuilding infrastructure will create jobs and provide the much needed upgrades to our road ways, bridges, damns, power grids, and so on. Every American would benefit from these projects.

So here’s whats wrong. Only $30 billion of the $825billion goes to these infrastructure projects. Not enough to even scratch the surface of our infrastructure needs. Not enough to create a significant number of jobs.

And exactly what did these Democrats vote for? Well here is a snippet from Self Investers.com

  • $20 billion for Food Stamps
  • $7 billion to modernize federal buildings
  • $4 billion to community activists such as ACORN (only from a community organizer!)
  • $2 billion for Child Care
  • $650 million for Digital TV conversions
  • $400 million for Global Warming Research (Thank You Al Gore!)
  • $335 million for research of Sexually transmitted diseases
  • $50 million for The National Endowment of the Arts
  • $25 million for new ATV trails - who’s behind this one Ted Nugent? (Doubt it)

Amounting to over 34 Billion dollars!

The list goes on.

While some of these programs do a lot of good, none of them belong in an Economic Stimulus plan. A recent Foxnews poll shows its overall approval at around 42% nationally. Sounds like this foot hold on unbridled power is slowly slipping away. I would expect it to slip even more when the bill enters the Senate, where this pig is expected to get fatter.

Hopefully the Republicans will take another stand. Though the Democrats have a majority in the House AND Senate they need some republicans on board to stop a possible phillibuster.  Its time to go to bat  Senator McConnell, you need to hit ball.

What other alternatives are there to this massive spending bill?

Share your ideas.

Stimulus Funding for ACORN?

Jan 29 2009

I shouldn’t be shocked but this is just over the top.  FOX News reports that the Democrat backed $825 billion stimulus package has verbiage in it that would make non-profit organizations like ACORN eligible for funding from the stimulus funds.

Some one please explain to me how this helps our economy.

Republican leaders need to shout this to the rafters and not let them get away with this. In case you don’t remember ACORN is the non-profit organization currently under investigation for voter registration fraud in numerous states. Leaders of ACORN openly campaigned for Obama during the ‘08 Presidential Election, encouraging people to register as Democrats and to vote for Obama. It is my belief that one day the allegations will be proven. Thousands of ballots from fraudulent voters were counted in this election. I believe this to be true, the Republicans have too much class to wine about it after the fact unlike Al Gore and hundreds of liberal Floridians who are probably STILL counting votes from the 2000 election.

The very idea of an Economic Stimulus package that funnels funding to a non-profit of any sort is in itself  an oxymoron.

The bill as it stands, according to House Republican leader John Boehner, dishes out $4.19 billion to “neighborhood stabilization activities.” The money was previously only available to State and local governments but now Democrats want part of the money to available to non-profit entities.

The way I see it, President Obama and Democrat lawmakers are attempting to funnel money to their liberal lobbyist friends in Washington.  Sen.David Vitter (R-La.) called it a pay-off for their political activities in the last election. Vitter also said that this was just one of many frivilous spending items in the bill and that it was not a job creation bill but a long list of big spending items.

Of course none of this should be a surprise, President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton have a long history, (if you want to call the less than 2 years that Obama spent in the Senate before running for President long), of Pork Barrel Spending.

The greatest irritation in this is that Obamas’ campaign was all about change. I see no change, I see the same people in office that were here during the Clinton Administration; I see the same Pork Barrel Spending; I see the bended knee to the lobbyists and special interest groups like ACORN; and I see politics as usual.

Federal Funding for ACORN is one big slap in the face to American taxpayers and I ask all of you to contact your Congressmen and Senators and urge them to vote this bill right straight into the trash can. Tell them our government shouldn’t be funding this abomination of free elections. Tell them that you wont stand for it. Tell them they will be unemployed if they allow such misappropriations of your money to take place.

Tell them! Tell them! Tell Them NO FUNDING FOR ACORN!

Its a Cracked World we live in!

Tax and Spend!

That pretty much spells it out. After a year of insane government spending by the Bush Administration we now are on track for even more insanity. Unless you’ve been on a deserted island for the past two months you probably know that our new President Barack Obama has decided its best for our country to spend some more money courtesy of us tax payers.

$825 Billion is the latest figure and it doesn’t even include the remaining $350 Billion that was voted to the mega banks by congress last October. Obamas plan is to spend a large portion of the $825 Billion on jobs to rebuild and refurbish infrastructure according to Fox News.com.

While this may sound like a good way to create jobs in a floundering economy  I tend to agree with House Republican leader John Boehner. Instead of more government spending, some tax cuts would ease the public consumers financial woes and allow entrepreneurs, small businesses, and the self employed to retain more of their earnings and encourage investing and create private sector jobs.

One thing that President Bush proved beyond doubt was that when it comes to taxes, less is more. His tax cuts, which the Democrat controlled Senate decided to let expire, actually increased tax revenue. Large Corporations paid less taxes and invested the savings in their own endeavors which created more jobs and corporate investment. Granted more transparency was  needed to prevent corruption in the higher up positions of many major corporations like Enron and the more recent financial sector messes, but one has to admit the economy for the last three or four years leading up to our current woes were booming ones. The Dow Jones Industrial Average broke the 15,000 mark and the national unemployment average was at record lows not seen in 40 years.

Why is it so important to spend billions of dollars to create government jobs now when President Bill Clinton, the last Democrat in the White House, found the need to eliminated so many of them by reducing our military to a skeletal form?

I definitely think money should be spent to create jobs. I just dont trust government officials with so much of our money, somehow the money always gets spent on things other than what they were intended for. A maneuver Barack Obama and the newly named Secretary of  State Hillary Clinton are masters at. They finished on the top of the heap in pork barrel spending.

Hang on to your hats folks, and your wallets. The Democrats are going to try and spend their way out of this mess.

What the answers are to it all I don’t know.

If any one has any new and unique ideas to solve our financial crisis I’m all ears.

Its a Cracked World isn’t it
